As Mike Hayden retires he takes with him a lifetime of memories and accomplishments. As the current administrative staff plans for the future without his leadership, they have gained valuable experience during his tenure. We have learned that his decisions were never easy but Mike had the ability to listen and accept the opinions of others. He always made us feel like co-workers open to our suggestions and recommendations. As a staff, he made sure we felt it was a team effort. We have learned that once a decision is made it cannot be taken personal. When challenges came before the Board of Directors, Review Board, Circuit Court or State Legislature, Mike felt confident in supporting the Constitution and By Laws established by the member school principals. He never took the decisions of others as a personal attack of his integrity. He always maintained a professional demeanor and gained the respect from all who might have an opposing opinion.
